Lanterns at Appledore Visual Arts Festival 09
Appledore's 12th Visual Art Festival themed Fire and Fury established the festival as one of the South West's major arts events. A daily programme of events exhibitions, Artists in Residence, kiln art, installations and drop in workshops attracted more than 10,000 visitors.
I was invited to create lanterns with participants to take part in the Saturday Night Fire Extravaganza. Emergency Exit Arts artist Ben Piper created a large male and female head from withies and tissue that when lit had a fiery argument created with tin buckets, flame throwers and fireworks whilst our multi coloured flashing supernova star and sun lanterns bobbed around in the crowd.
