Lanterns...


Lanterns are made from, wire or withies covered with cellophane and tissue paper and lit with glow lights or reusable battery operated LED's. Torches and naked flame can be used also depending on the size and nature of the structure to be lit.

Below are some photographs of past lantern making with participants. Some were commissioned by Metal Culture in Southend to celebrate the start of the cultural Olympiad.

Opposite is a picture of a Diwali lantern making workshop celebrating the Hindu Festival of Light.
